Abridged Book Description[]

Though full of deft and seductive Hitchcockian touches, Marnie is a strange and unsettling film, in part because of Mark's character. Though he professes love of Marnie and tries to help her overcome her neurosis, his conduct is full of barely suppressed sadism, treating her like a caged animal. As Marnie says, "I'm just something you caught."
